They are not set up to handle factory jacketed FMJ or JHP. The 45 acp cylinders require Lead Round Nose or Lead Semi-Wadcutter bullets. My response to that is, I'd rather just shoot one of my other guns then worry about loosing small parts (barrel pins) on my 1860's or dealing with that finicky cylinder swap on my 1858. I frequently read conversion cylinders are good for when you want to shoot your C&B revolvers and not clean them. I find I'd rather shoot with loose black powder and cap & ball in my BP revolvers than mess with the conversion cylinders. The other has a TIGHT barrel wedge and requires a hammer and punch to swap the cylinder. The gun is loose and the Barrel Wedge comes out easy allowing for a quick cylinder swap. One I bought used off of Gunbroker which came with the Howell Conversion cylinder. I'm not one of those guys and find it difficult to swap cylinders in my Pietta 1858. If you look at some of the youtube videos - some guys are really fast at changing cylinders on their 1858 Remingtons.
